As Fiji welcomed the New Year, there were some around the nation who were welcoming new additions to their families.

Thirty-two-year-old Siteri Rabativesi gave birth to her third child at the Colonial War Memorial (CWM) Hospital in Suva.

Siteri described her baby boy as a gift from God. The baby, who is yet to be named, was born at 12.33am yesterday. From midnight till 11am, the Colonial War Memorial Hospital had recorded nine births.

Two women gave birth later around 4am.

Ms Vakayavu has urged young women to be mindful of their bodies as age played a part in the overall experience of childbirth.

“My advice to young women out there is that it’s better to give birth at an age where your body can handle it. I’ve seen before a lot of young mothers and some had still births,” she said.

In Labasa, Dr Pin Ma and his partner, nurse Loreen Atelina Emma, who often deliver babies for others, welcomed their son Matthew Ma at 1.57am yesterday.

It is the first child for a couple.
