Storage blaze prompts NFA fire safety warning to businesses
National Fire Authority
The National Fire Authority (NFA) is urging businesses to review fire safety measures after an $80,000 blaze destroyed much of a storage structure attached to a commercial building in Vatuwaqa.
The fire broke out at about 8.44pm on Thursday at 113 Kaunitoni Street, where a lean-to storage structure used by Kris Lunch Box to store old cooking equipment and company files was extensively damaged.
Firefighters arrived to find the structure well alight and successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to the adjoining two-storey concrete building.

The storage structure sustained about 60 per cent damage, with losses estimated at $80,000. No injuries were reported.
National Fire Authority chief executive officer Puamau Sowane said the incident highlighted how quickly fires could spread in storage areas.
"A fire that starts in a storage area can rapidly spread and place entire buildings, neighbouring properties and livelihoods at risk," Mr Sowane said.
He urged businesses to ensure electrical systems were regularly inspected and that combustible materials were stored safely.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
