Nigeria national charged with white drug find

A Nigerian national involved in the alleged unlawful possession of illicit drug was remanded by the Nadi Magistrate Court yesterday.

The accused, Chukwuemeka Phabian, 36, appeared before Magistrate Semi Babitu, charged with one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs and one count of unlawful supplying of illicit drugs.

The court heard that Phabian was involved in the importation of 4.8685 kg of methamphetamine, at the Nadi Airport last Friday.

Phabian will engage a private counsel while Sergeant Siteri Naika represented the police Prosecution.

Sergeant Naika objected to bail and asked the court to transfer the matter to the Lautoka High Court.

She added that he was part of the group linked to the drug bust in Nadi, where three locals including a Fiji Counter Narcotics Bureau member are now remanded while their matters have been transferred to the Lauotka High court.

Magistrate has Batitu denied Phabian bail; adjourning the matter to June 2 at the Lautoka High Court.
