A group of 25 healthworkers have been approved to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to work at the Aamer Home and Health Care and Alhadaf Alwadih Health Services.

Nine nurses out of those 25 healthworkers were in the first batch to depart Fiji onboard a commercial Air New Zealand flight yesterday. This was possible through the Vinaka Employment agency that was granted its overseas recruitment licence from the Ministry of Employment this year.

Rubina Singh, 33, is one of those nine nurses, who said she was looking forward to working in the UAE. The Nadroga native, who had served with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services for 10 years, said: “It has been exciting to be a nurse. Good opportunity for us since we do generalise nursing. This is an opportunity for us to explore and upskills our professional ability and in our area of expertise.

“Challenge is well known with the risk during this situation of the pandemic. As a career to serve and more can be achieved in life.”

Another nurse with this first batch is Sweta Mudaliar, 24, of Balata, Tavua.

“I am happy to be part of this, but it was a concern at home with the crisis that is going on. I am learning. You have to explore and spread your wings to know more,” said the youngest of the nine nurses,” she said.

“We have to have faith. I know that nursing is not an easy, but it is a challenging profession.”
