Nine-year old Patemo Rasiga is fighting for his young life at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva, after he was allegedly hit by a car yesterday.

The incident occurred around 8am when the Year Four student of St Jospeh the Worker Primary School was waiting for a bus at the Waidamudamu bus stop.

His mother, Losalini Dikorolala, was still in shock and disbelief about what her son was going through.

“I was at home when I saw my eldest son running back home to tell me that Patemo was hit by a car,” Ms Dikorolala said.

“I ran to the main road to see Police questioning the driver, but all I could think of was my son’s condition because someone had rushed him to the Nausori Hospital.

“He was then transferred to the CWM Hospital. It still feels unreal.”

It is alleged that the oncoming car had hit the young boy and sending him flying on the side of the concrete walkway where he hit his head.

Ms Dikorolala said she witnessed many times that drivers did not stop at the red lights.

“Some drivers become more irresponsible when they drive past that section of the road towards the traffic lights; they can’t seem to slow down and that is why accidents will happen,” she said.

“My son is still recovering because there was a big impact when his head hit the concrete.

“I’m praying for his speedy recovery and the doctors help.”
