Nisha Scoops Four Gold Medals After Sacrifice, Hard Work

Education and working towards a better future have always been a priority for 22-year-old Shaniya Azmi Nisha.

Ms Nisha proved this when she received four gold medals from the University of Fiji (UniFiji)

The Immigration Inspector at Fijian Immigration Department, Nadi said she did not attend family functions/gatherings and celebrations during her study period, nor did she have a social media account until her final third year exams in 2020.

Originally from Maigania, in Nadi, Ms Nisha is the eldest child in her family of four and she has a younger sister, Sheeraani Nisha, 14.

At the university, she undertook a Bachelor of Commerce, Double Major: Information Technology and Management which was a three-year programme (2018 – 2020).

The four gold medals she received were for:

-  Outstanding Information Technology Student

- Outstanding Management Student

- Outstanding School of Business and Economics Student

- Major award for The University of Fiji- Vice-Chancellor’s Award

The graduation was meant to be in April 2021, but due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed.

Sacrifices She Had To Endure

Nisha said her parents have been her biggest supporters and she strived to make them proud.

"I strived to attain as many skills as I could while I was studying which resulted in a lot of late nights and early mornings.”

She thanked the Fijian Government for bringing in the incentive of providing Tertiary Education Loans Scheme (TELS) which enabled her to further her studies.
