A Public Service Vehicle (PSV) driver’s licence will not be renewed if it accumulates a certain number of infringement notices.
This was confirmed by Land Transport Authority (LTA) acting chief executive officer Irimaia Rokosawa.
Mr Rokosawa highlighted this during the stakeholder consultations yesterday to get feedback and input on matters relating to their permit policies, processes, and the industry.

He said it was sad to see that drivers think that just because they pay their fine, they were entitled to get their licence renewed.
“You breach, you come and pay the $25. Even though you pay your infringement notice, LTA has the record and if you continue to break the rules, we will not renew your licence,” Mr Rokosawa said.
“When a PSV driver reaches a certain infringement number, LTA will contact you. We will decide whether you are capable enough to have the Group 3, Group 4 or Group 5 Licence because you have a lot of responsibilities as you are carrying passengers.
“At times people tell us that they have paid their fine, but their licence is not renewed, and I am sorry to say that some of the numbers of infringement recorded is 90 and even 180.”
The Central/Eastern Minibus Association representative Naresh Chand was calling on LTA to increase minibus fare.
“We would like to have our minibus fare increase. We have given our submission as per required to Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) and they have said that they are still working on it,” Mr Chand said.
“We want the minibus fare to increase as soon as possible because everything is increasing from fuel to tyres.”
