The Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North committee has announced plans to establish the first-ever prosthetic limb centre in the Northern Division.

This is to be based in Vulovi, Labasa.

Committee president Karunesh Virappa said 16 patients in need of prosthetic limbs were identified last month, with measurements taken by a visiting medical team.

The initiative is part of the committee’s annual community project, supported by major sponsor Vodafone Fiji Limited.

“We are grateful to our major sponsor, Vodafone Fiji Limited, along with our co-sponsors, contestants, and committee members for their continued support,” he said.

Speaking at the festival’s thanksgiving programme at the Fiji Football Academy in Labasa last Saturday, Vodafone Fiji’s head of recharge and distribution, Nilesh Singh, commended the committee for its transparency and consistent service delivery over the past decade.

“At Vodafone, festivals work in our favour because they allow us to reconnect with our people and engage with the vanua,” Mr Singh said.

He thanked the committee’s latest initiative, the prosthetic limb service, and congratulated members for their unity and vision in undertaking impactful community projects.

The weeklong festival at Subrail Park had generated gross proceeds of $338,757.25, the highest collection to date.
