“We are very concerned that this sort of activity is going on, and being done in our name as an Association,” Ms Kusuma said.

One of Australia’s peak farming bodies has issued a warning on online scams, following several unauthorised Facebook posts about migration.

NSW Farmers’ Association Workplace Relations Director Gracia Kusuma said an individual posing as a “NSW Farmers Recruiting Officer” had made several Facebook posts about agricultural work opportunities in Australia.

“We are very concerned that this sort of activity is going on, and being done in our name as an Association,” Ms Kusuma said.

“NSW Farmers does not have any recruitment officers, we are not in the business of directly recruiting workers for farms, and we would not make these offers through social media.

“Anyone who has been in touch with individuals posing as NSW Farmers Recruitment Officers should immediately contact local authorities in Fiji.”

While there were some pathways to agricultural work in NSW and other states in Australia, these were not offered by NSW Farmers’ Association.
