Nuclear Water Discharge: Controversy
Mr Rabuka’s statement received scrutiny not only from Opposition Members of Parliament but also his own Coalition Government.

The video announcement by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka supporting the expert advice of Japan’s planned discharge of more than a million tonnes of ‘treated water’ from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the Pacific Ocean, is under the spotlight.
Mr Rabuka’s statement received scrutiny not only from Opposition Members of Parliament but also his own Coalition Government.
Last Thursday, Mr Rabuka released a video statement saying he was satisfied that Japan had demonstrated commitment to satisfy the wishes of Pacific Island states in regard to its plans to discharge waste water from the Fukushima Nuclear Plant to the Pacific Ocean.

He said after reading the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report, it was reassuring enough to dispel any fears of degradation of the ocean environment that would adversely affect life and ecosystems in our blue pacific.
