NZ, Fiji Police Join Forces in Drug Fight

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has hinted on the collaboration of the Fiji Police and the New Zealand Police to fight the illicit drug crisis in Fiji.
He made this known during a press conference in Suva yesterday.
Prime Minister Luxon said the illicit drug issue was one that he and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka talked at length during their meeting yesterday.

“It’s of concern to both of us as leaders in our countries because we just can’t have drugs on our people,” Mr Luxon said.
“We already have some good work that have been happening with regards to New Zealand Police working closely with Fiji Police here but we are both very attuned in ensuring that we have very good customs control, border control and making sure that we share insights and intelligence in what we are facing together,” he said.
“Certainly having our both Police forces integrated so that they work together on this common challenge.”
He added that the drug issue was a big challenge.
“There are forces outside of the Pacific that are contributing to that. We need to stand and work together on what has become a very complex problem.
“I have no doubt about both our determination and in trying to push back very strongly on that.
“We will absolutely see increased co-operation on this.”
