Oceania Hospital is urging school organisers to reach out for medical support at upcoming sporting events.
This includes upcoming zone athletics meets and, potentially, the Coca-Cola Games, as part of the hospital’s ongoing efforts to support student athletes and grassroots sports.
Hospital business development executive, Kelera Cagica, said the hospital recently began providing medical services to assist athletes at school sporting events.

“We came on board two weeks ago for the Marist Inter-house. The approach was basically to come in and do an outreach to provide medical assistance for the athletes,” she said.
Cagica said the hospital’s medical team assisted several students during the event by providing basic treatment and monitoring injuries.
“We have assisted a few students this morning, just basic triaging, making sure we have ice packs and straps available for them,” she added.
She clarified that the hospital’s presence was not a sponsorship but part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
“It’s not a sponsored event but an outreach from the hospital. It’s a CSR initiative where every year we try to reach out to the community,” she said.
Cagica said the hospital aims to support grassroots sports and promote youth development through athletics and other sporting activities.
“We want communities to know that Oceania Hospital is also here for grassroots events, and we want to step into the sporting arena as well to help nurture youth sportsmanship,” she explained.
She said the medical outreach team usually includes a doctor, nurses, and volunteers to assist during events.
“Basically, what we do is send a team in. We would have a GP, two nurses, and volunteers assisting the clinical team,” she added.
She emphasized that Oceania Hospital remains committed to supporting community initiatives.
“Oceania Hospital is here for the community,” she said.
