Two military officers will visit the Indonesian National Emergency Centre to learn firsthand from its experience in dealing with national crises.

Lieutenant Colonel Samuela Vuetaki, who hails from Dakuiloa Village in Oneata, Lau, and Petty Officer Atunaisa Waqainabete of Kiuva, Bau, Tailevu, will leave Fiji today and return on April 1.

They are seconded officers from the RFMF responsible for establishing the National Integrated Coordination Centre (NICC) of the National Security and Defence Council Secretariat (NSDCS).

The two are hoping to learn how to organise and coordinate Government resources during national crises.

Indonesia is one country that has encountered a number of national crises

recently. So their national emergency centre has experience that they would like to learn from.

Defence Director General of National Security and Defence Council Secretariat (NSDCS) Timoci Natuva said they hope to work with the Indonesian Embassy in the future.

“With transnational crimes, drug trafficking and other issues that we may come and discuss later especially on transnational crimes and how we can share information.

Right now we are sharing information with Australia and New Zealand but we would also like to go to Asian countries. We need to see what we can come up with that are in our common interest.”

Indonesia Ambassador Benyamin Scott Carnadi said they have similar challenges as Fiji.
