Creating awareness against pornography in Fiji has been the main objective for an oldies rugby club in Nadi.

Denarau Lions Masters (Oldies) Rugby Club has diverted its energy in spreading the gospel to promote ‘No Porn’ in the communities.

Co-ordinator Epineri Susu, who is leading the charge launched the initiative at Saunaka Village in Nadi on Saturday.

“This year the Denarau Lions were set to return to Darwin, however the 2022 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19,” he said.

“Thus the club redirected energy and focus towards an issue that has been plaguing society for many years now, which is the unprecedented volume of online pornography consumption in Fiji."

“As husbands, and fathers of the next generation, this issue of pornography online viewing and sharing is of grave concern to us, particularly because of all manner of sex crimes and abuse that can potentially arise from pornography addiction."

“Pornography can have a detrimental impact on an individual’s mind and psychology prompting the simple minded to commit unspeakable sex crimes against women and children and even against their loved ones which sadly has been the case in our beloved Fiji.”

Mr Susu added that the club has also partnered with the Fiji Police in terms of conducting awareness in the society.

“We express our sincere thanks and appreciation to Sergeant Ben Vukivou and the Fiji Police Force for our inclusion in the Nadi crime prevention group,” he said.
