Mary-Louise O’Callaghan, the former Pacific Correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald, who covered the 1987 Military Coup, was privileged to witness the historic repeal of the Media Industry Development Act 2010.

She watched the event unfold while sitting in the Parliament public gallery yesterday.

Labelling the act as a “repressive tool” she said it was rare that a country turned back the tide of authoritarian rule.
