Opposition Leader unfazed by A-G suspension

Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, says he is not worried about Attorney-General Graham Leung’s suspension, emphasising that work must continue.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka suspended Mr Leung on Friday following the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report.
Mr Seruiratu added that no one holds a job for life, and people can be replaced.

“There are people who can carry out the work and the work will go on,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“It was good to see that Government is doing something positive but again I hope the Prime Minister could make the report be publicly known for transparency purposes.”
When asked if he had approached Mr Rabuka on this, he replied no because he was also bound by the commission’s instructions given to him earlier.
“That’s why I kept silent when the report was released but again, I raise the concern on the need to release the report because the inquiry involves those in leadership; it’s nothing personal,” he said.
When asked on his view on whether the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption’s (FICAC) former Commissioner, Barbara Malimali should be suspended on full pay or not, he said: “That’s beyond my jurisdiction. There are systems and processes in place, but the basic guideline is that any action taken is within the bounds of the authority and the respective agency is responsible to abide by it.
