Vodafone Miss Ovalau 2019, Miss Illusions Fiji, Samantha Whippy, has dedicated her win to her mother, Wati Whippy.

The University of the South Pacific science student and sales rep for Mindpearl said she wished mum was present in Levuka on crowning night last Saturday.

Samantha, 23, said Mrs Whippy was in the West because of a death in the family.

She was not expecting to win and thanked her mum and dad for the upbringing and advice.

She lives in Suva but travelled to Levuka to contest the beauty pageant.

“I have a soft spot for Levuka. I have always been drawn to Levuka because my paternal grandmother is from Vagadaci,” she said. “I was very close to her before her death.”

The former Dudley High School student wants to become a lab technician after she graduates with a Bachelor of Science with majors in biology and chemistry.

She said for the time being her studies would be put on the side because she would be focusing on the Miss Fiji Pageant.
