More than 173,000 Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) members have not contributed to their retirement savings for over a year
This was revealed by FNPF chief executive officer Viliame Vodonaivalu at the FY2025 Member Forum on Tuesday.
Mr Vodonaivalu said the 173,261 non-contributing members represent a significant portion of FNPF's total membership of 436,860.

"This group includes both compulsory and voluntary members who have not contributed to their retirement savings for more than 12 months," Mr Vodonaivalu said.
He said among compulsory members, 154,110 are non-active, while 19,151 voluntary members are also not contributing.
"This is an area we must continue to address through stronger engagement, education, and targeted outreach so members do not fall behind in their retirement savings," Mr Vodonaivalu said.
However, there is positive news as voluntary contributions have surged dramatically.
"More members are boosting their retirement savings through additional and voluntary contributions, which have surged to $98.4 million and $31.2m respectively," Mr Vodonaivalu said.
This represents growing confidence among active members who are choosing to save more for their retirement.
The Fund currently has 263,599 contributing members, showing strong engagement and improved compliance.
Mr Vodonaivalu said member engagement, contribution compliance and awareness around voluntary saving remain critical priorities going forward.
FNPF has been conducting targeted outreach, including 664 awareness sessions reaching nearly 30,000 members across Fiji to encourage inactive members to resume contributions.
