Pacific politician’s son among 10 denied bail in Fiji drug raids

Police uncover meth in multi-division crackdown; politician linked to past legal troubles and Asian syndicates.

A senior politician in the Pacific is the father of one of the accused who was arrested by police following multiple joint raids across Fiji earlier this week.   

His son is one of 10 people allegedly found with illicit substances believed to be meth, following several drug raids in the Western, Southern and Central divisions by the Fiji Police Force and Immigration Department. 

All 10 accused were denied bail by the courts yesterday. The senior politician is reportedly a senator in his country, having served over 10 years in Parliament. 
He is one of the country’s strong advocates for China. International and local media have reported that his had several run-ins with the law.  
The island nation has become the hub of illegal activity such as drug smuggling, online gambling operation, money laundering, and prostitution, allegedly linked to Asian syndicates.  
It is reported that some of these Asian individuals are closely linked to senior politicians in the country to the extent of making donations.
