Pacific Polytech is developing a programme called social media, says its chairperson Ganesh Chand.

Mr Chand said they would seek the help and inputs of media organisations in developing the programme.

“Social media is the in-thing now where everyone including men and women, both young and old are using it,” he said.

“Content creations is a specialised skill and when you look at the content now, there is a lot of be desired.”

While details were to be revealed, Mr Chand said the institution had a lot of plans for Vanua Levu. This included working with Government to secure a piece of land to build a campus in Labasa.

Meanwhile, he called on parents to allow and encourage their daughters to take any profession they want.

“If females are interested in a trade field of jobs such as mechanic, electrician, plumber or carpenter they should be given the okay,” he said.

Mr Chand made the remarks after 97 students graduated from their Labasa campus last Friday.

“In families, parents, say children particularly daughters, do office work and this change must start from home. We are there to provide education and I am so happy that we had so many females graduating,” Mr Chand said.

“Students graduated with National Certificate in Carpentry Level Three and National Certificate in Plumbing and Sheetmetal Level Three.”

He said no one has been left without a job.
