The management of Pacific Transport Bus has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting the company was responsible for the head-on collision at Semo Hill, Nadroga, yesterday.

In a statement released today, the bus company clarified that the accident was caused by a two-trailer laden truck heading toward Sigatoka.

“While our bus appeared in some of the images, we wish to clarify that the cause of the accident was an oncoming truck, which collided head-on with our bus,” the statement read.

The company warned that unverified and misleading statements can misinform the public and unfairly damage the reputation of its drivers, staff, and operations.

Pacific Transport also commended its driver for his professionalism, courage, and swift response in ensuring the safety of passengers.

“Despite the imminent danger of a head-on collision, our driver acted selflessly and responsibly to protect those in his care,” the company said.

“Passengers present during the incident can attest to his composure and quick thinking under pressure.”

Photos from the bus’s onboard camera were released on Pacific Transport’s Facebook page to support their account of the incident.

The company expressed concern for the 29 passengers currently receiving care at Sigatoka Hospital, and extended its wishes for their full and speedy recovery.

Police investigations into the cause of the accident are currently underway.
