Transport operators will maintain services despite a major road drop-out along Queen’s Road near Semo Village that has cut off traffic in both directions.

The carriageway gave way yesterday, making the route impassable and forcing diversions while the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) works to establish a temporary detour.

Pacific Transport general manager (West) Jashwant Singh said operations would continue, but passengers would be required to change buses at Semo.

“Buses will travel the same route, but passengers will change over at Semo,” Singh said.

“Passengers coming from Suva will reboard a bus on this side of the highway, where the Lautoka-bound bus is parked. Likewise, passengers travelling from Lautoka to Suva will follow a similar arrangement.”

Lautoka-based minibus operator Valo Danford confirmed his Lautoka–Suva service would not be disrupted.

“Business remains usual. The van will follow the diversion plan issued by the Fiji Roads Authority. We have to take heed of the direction,” he said.

FRA acting general manager Nadi–Sigatoka Shivneel Kumar said an immediate assessment would be carried out once floodwaters receded.

In the meantime, traffic has been diverted via Nadiri Road before the affected site, through Sanasana Village towards Veisabasaba Village, linking past Tuva Indian School and reconnecting to Queen’s Road.

“We are also exploring the establishment of a temporary diversion adjacent to the current slip section to safely redirect traffic along this section of Queen’s Road. The objective is to implement a more resilient solution to strengthen this corridor against future events,” Kumar said.

Motorists are urged to plan their travel accordingly, expect delays and exercise caution when travelling through the area.

FRA will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as assessments progress.
