Parents of a teen mother, who became the dux of her school, say it’s important to encourage children to never lose sight of a better future for themselves.
Roslyn Musuka’asau and husband, Ratu Mara Musuka’asau, stood proudly as parents congratulating their daughter, Jeini, after receiving the dux prize for Rotuma High School.
Holding onto them was Jeini’s daughter whom she gave birth to in 2020, at 17 years old.

Her mother was unwelcoming at first but later understood that there was no one else to support her daughter.
“When I asked her if she was pregnant and when she admitted it, her father was in tears while I reacted differently to the situation,” she said over the phone from Rotuma.
