The Parliamentary sitting will not proceed today due to the three-day water cuts affecting the Nausori-Suva corridor.

Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, announced yesterday the proceedings would be suspended.

An advisory issued by the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji stated that due to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) concerns, the necessary preparatory measures for the water disruption would be insufficient to maintain full hygiene standards at the Parliamentary complex.

"Parliament will be closed tomorrow and resume normal operations on Monday, October 7, 2024," the advisory confirmed.

Meanwhile, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has confirmed schools will remain open today.

Mr Radrodro said the ministry was working closely with the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) to ensure that schools have sufficient water supply throughout the duration of classes.

Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau has assured the public WAF was prepared to manage the planned water disruption.

"Water trucks will be on standby, and if Fijians in the Nausori-Suva corridor need water, they should reach out to WAF," Ro Filipe said.

Fijians affected are encouraged to contact WAF's toll-free number 334 6777, shortcode 5777 (all mobile networks), the WAF Mobile App, or email: contact@waf.com.fj for assistance.
