The month of June is out the question with Budget preparations gaining momentum.

The National Budget announcement will be tabled in Parliament on Friday 28th June 2024. This will be followed by the Budget Debate from July 8th – 19th, 2024.

The August sitting of Parliament will take place from the 5th – for one week.

Mr Rabuka said this was the window where Members of Parliament will have the opportunity to review or reconsider their decision made last Friday.

“As leaders, Members of Parliament must consider the effect on the country of their vote held on 24th May in Parliament.”

Mr Rabuka, is one of 40 Parliamentarians who voted in favour of the motion put forward by the chair of the Special Committee on Emoluments, Lynda Tabuya to adopt the recommendations of the Committee on Emoluments Report.

Similar to his Wednesday statement, Mr Rabuka again lauded Fijians for exercising their freedom of expression.

“Again, I am gratified to see that the people of Fiji are freely expressing their view, exercising their freedom of expression and they no longer live in fear.

“Further, the media has freely reported the peoples’ views on the matter. This is democracy in action, where members of the public have their say and media report freely.

“I confirm that I and a few colleagues in Cabinet will not take the salary increase (after removal of the 20 per cent pay-reduction put in place by the COVID-19 mini-budget in March 2020.)”
