The senior loan officer for Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF), Nilesh Karan, 47, will now pursue a career as a legal practitioner.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Fiji last month.

He chose to study law because he had worked in the legal field and had experience in Civil and Litigation matters.

The father of two has worked in law firms in Ba, Lautoka and Nadi and the Housing Authority. Prior to joining SCGF, he was a senior credit officer with Carpenter Finance, Lautoka.

He has been working with SCGF for 19 years.

Mr Karan said it took him seven years to complete his law studies as a working student. The challenges he faced along the way have taught him life lessons.

"Balancing my studies with work and family commitments required careful planning and dedication.

From the outset, I prioritised time management. I developed a flexible schedule that allowed me to allocate specific times for lectures, study sessions, and work responsibilities. This approach helped me stay organised and maintain my focus amongst the various demands," Mr Khan said.

"Support was crucial. One significant challenge was managing time effectively between my coursework, job, and family responsibilities. Balancing these commitments often felt overwhelming, especially during peak periods like exams or assignment submissions."

"To overcome this challenge, I implemented a structured approach to time management.

"This method allowed me to allocate specific times for study, work, and family activities, ensuring that I dedicated quality time to each segment of my life."

He dedicated his achievement to the people who supported him.

"First of all, to my wife for her encouragement, and understanding the importance of my education while also embracing the sacrifices we made together and through whose support I was able to complete my studies, my children for their understanding together with family and friends.

"This opportunity, not only provided me with the time and flexibility to pursue my educational goals, but also demonstrated the organisation's unwavering commitment to employee growth and development."

His plans to enrol in the postgraduate programme and be admitted to the bar.
