More than 300 residents along Korovesi Road in Savusavu hopes their roads could be fixed as soon possible.

The road is yet to undergo maintenance after several floods had deteriorated the conditions of the road last year.

The chairman for the Cakaudrove Advisory Councillors, Dayal Patel said there was currently no bus services in the area because of the condition of the road.

“School reopens tomorrow and students will find difficulty in their transportation,” Mr Patel said.

He said more than 300 residents would be affected.

A resident and former advisory councillor for Korovesi settlement, Shiu Chand, said it has been more than six months that residents in the area have been facing transport problems.

“People find it difficult to travel and pay carriers $20-$35 to carry their luggage or goods after shopping.

“Even the taxis cannot use the road,” Mr Chand said.

The bus route is serviced by Vishnu Holdings Ltd. Company general manager Naisa Tuinaceva has assured the public that services would be delivered once the road condition was improved.

“Once the road is okay for heavy public service vehicle (PSV) like buses, we will be back and resume trips. It’s a road condition issue,” Mr. Tuinaceva said.

Korovesi Road is five kilometres from Savusavu Town.

Fiji Roads Authority was contacted and had not responded when this article went to press.
