Two aspiring law students who are members of the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) board have made their families proud after they were sworn in as new legal practitioners.

The swearing in ceremony was held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva yesterday. The two are Koroi Cakacaka and Samuela Savu.

Mr Cakacaka, the former SODELPA youth president credited his success to the many influences he received.

Being the second eldest of six siblings and raised by a single parent, Mr Cakacaka said his success was an overwhelming one.

“Now that the four years of studying has been completed, we’re going into the theoretical part of the law and that’s the most interesting part, challenging our ethics and professionalism,” he said.

“Straight after I finished my first degree in Commerce, I went to do research in Rewa where I received some advice from Ro Teimumu Kepa and Adi Laufitu Malani to pursue law.”

Mr Cakacaka was grateful for the help rendered to him throughout his education years as it shaped his future and goals of becoming a lawyer.

Samuela Savu expressed his gratitude to lawyer Tanya Waqanika for moving their petition.

He said his aim was to fulfill the direction given to them by Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo which was to work hard and do our best with serving their clients and the people of Fiji.

“The last six months was challenging and fulfilling, doing diploma with the legal practice along with a very good bunch of students and I wish them well,” he said.

“We are grateful to Ms Waqanika for moving our petition and we’re thankful to the Chief Justice for the counsel he’s given us as new lawyers on what he expects us to do without clients, the community and we look forward to working hard and following all the legal codes of Law practice.”
