But according to him, the $100 a month that he gets is just not enough even though he lives alone.
To ensure that he has enough food to eat, he has planted some food for his consumption.
Mr Sue has planted dalo, cassava, watercress and bele on the small land he has.
“I started planting about three years ago because I have no source of income,” he said.
“Luckily I planted some things for my own consumption because the $100 is just not enough.
“What I receive in social welfare assistance is used to pay my water and electricity bills and to buy some basic food items like rice, dhal and other items.
“I’m even unable to buy any meat because $100 is nothing in this present time.”
Mr Sue said he goes fishing for a night, twice a week and gets enough fish for his consumption only.
He said planting some things for his consumption keeps him busy and it also ensures that he stays fit.
“I wouldn’t have had much to eat if I didn’t plant anything. I’m still going strong,” he said.
“Also, I want to set an example for the younger generation that they can also do something for their survival.
“They can utilise their time and land to plant for themselves and their families and also to sell if they have extra.”
Mr Sue also said that he preferred to live alone like he has been doing for the past few years.
