The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) will contest the 2022 General Election with only 54 candidates.

This was after Peter Waqavonovono decided to withdraw his candidacy due to health issues.

During the Special General Meeting (SGM) at Dudley Intermediate multipurpose court on Saturday, party leader Viliame Gavoka said the party was confident going forward.

“From today onwards we will be focusing on campaigning. We had 56 coming in today’s meeting but unfortunately yesterday one of our very strong candidates had to relinquish his position due to his health,” Mr Gavoka said.

“Another one had to withdraw his application due to work commitments and he is a former school teacher. It is unfortunate that this happened in the past 24 hours.

“The 54 provisional candidates make up a solid team and I have all the faith that I have a team that will take us to the General Election.”
