The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs received a shipment of medical and welfare equipment at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Logistics Unit at Laucala Beach, Suva this morning.
The items are intended to support military, Police and Fiji Corrections Service veterans through the Fiji Servicemen’s After-Care Fund and enhance services and welfare support.
Ministry permanent secretary Mason Smith acknowledged the contribution from the organisations and their supporters.

“We are extremely grateful to PhysioNet UK and the Rotary Club of Fiji for this tremendous generosity,” Mr Smith said.
Retired Colonel and chairman of the After-Care Fund, Serevi Vananalagi, explained the importance of the donation for veterans.
“Our fund serves more than 5,000 ex-servicemen and their families,” Mr Vananalagi said.
“Many of our veterans are elderly, and this donation will greatly improve their daily lives.”
The equipment includes wheelchairs, crutches, glasses and other medical aids.
Mr Vananalagi said the items would be distributed based on medical assessments.
“Veterans submit medical reports and we issue items based on their needs,” he said.
“Officers placed in each Divisional Commissioner’s Office collect veteran data to ensure services are delivered nationwide.”
Mr Smith also outlined the ministry’s three key pillars of support for veterans.
“We are strengthening the After-Care Fund, providing mobility assistance to help veterans access government services and business opportunities after military service, and improving sports and social activities across the country,” he said.
Several events are planned to bring veterans together, including Infantry Day on June 23, the Poppy Appeal in October, Fiji Day celebrations on October 10, and Remembrance Day on November 11.
The Ministry continues to work with national and international partners to strengthen support systems for Fiji’s veterans.
“This partnership ensures our veterans receive the respect, recognition and services they deserve for their sacrifice to the nation,” Mr Smith said.
