Pita Tagicakirewa has been confirmed as Permanent Secretary for Civil Service with immediate effect.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) said the appointment was made with the agreement of the Prime Minister following an open, merit-based recruitment process.

PSC chairman Luke Rokovada said Tagicakirewa brings more than 30 years of experience in the Fiji Public Service, including previous roles as Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs and Acting Permanent Secretary for Civil Service.

He said Tagicakirewa has led major public sector initiatives, including the reinstatement of the Great Council of Chiefs, the review of the iTaukei Administration and the modernisation of the iTaukei Lands and Fisheries Commission.

Rokovada said Tagicakirewa also played a key role in advancing economic empowerment strategies for iTaukei communities, improving service delivery systems, building capacity across the Civil Service and facilitating the Functional Review of the Civil Service.

Tagicakirewa has also served overseas as a counsellor at the Fiji High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 2013 to 2021.

The PSC said the recruitment process was independently supported by a recruitment agency and conducted in line with the Open Merit Recruitment and Selection guidelines.
