PM Awaits President On Malimali’s Inquiry

Malimali’s appointment as FICAC Commissioner on September 4 has been contentious, as she is under investigation by the agency she now leads.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says he will be presenting a letter to the President soon for his approval on the Commission of Inquiry on the appointment of Barbara Malimali as Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC).

Mr Rabuka had told this masthead earlier that the scoping and the specific mandate of such COI was his prerogative.

Malimali’s appointment as FICAC Commissioner on September 4 has been contentious, as she is under investigation by the agency she now leads.

“We are just waiting for the President to get back, I will get him to sign the approval,” Mr Rabuka said.

“I have recommended him my letter that it will be taken to him when he gets back.”

Part of the agenda item was the scoping of a COI in examining the controversy surrounding the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

This includes;

Appointment of FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali;

Ministerial interference allegations; and

Scapegoating of ministerial charges.
