Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is unaware why it is taking long for the Constitutional Office Commission (COC) to announce the successful candidate to serve as Commissioner of Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) and Supervisor of Election.

“The commission has deliberated on those,” said Mr Rabuka who is also the COC chairman.

“I do not know why it is taking long to make the announcement.”

Current office holders are both in acting positions at the moment. The Acting Supervisor of Elections is Ana Mataiciwa and Acting Commissioner of FCS is Salote Panapasa.

Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew is awaiting the tribunal ruling of suspended Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho.

The COC also includes the Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu and Opposition nominee Tupou Draunidalo.

Mr Rabuka confirmed that nothing has come to him regarding the latest update or announcement of the respective role.

He questioned why there were inconsistencies in terms of the delay, adding that successful candidates had been shortlisted and were ready to be announced.
