Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has defended the recent Cabinet reshuffle, saying it was to ensure efficiency of Government operation.

The reshuffle which was announced last Friday night, has received criticisms from the Opposition and Fiji Law Society (FLS).

The changes, to be effective from today, will see Filimoni Vosarogo as the new Attorney-General while Attorney-General Siromi Turaga becomes the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources.

Aseri Radrodro and Ifereimi Vasu will swap ministerial portfolios with Mr Radrodro as the new Minister for iTaukei Affairs while the latter as Education Minister.

“This is the usual practice if I see and observe if ministers and civil servants are not able to work well together,” Mr Rabuka, who is Australia, said while speaking to the Fijian diaspora on the weekend at the Leigh Memorial Church in Parramatta.

“You might have heard about the recent Cabinet shuffle. In this case, it’s only best to change the ship’s captain.”

Since last Friday, the reshuffle had received criticisms, especially in Mr Vosarogo’s appointment.

Opposition Member of Parliament Faiyaz Koya opposed Mr Vosarogo appointment because of previous disciplinary proceedings with the Independent Legal Service Commission (ILSC).

Fiji Law Society had written to Mr Rabulka against the appointment.
