Acquitted former Minister for Fisheries and Forestry Kalaveti Ravu has been considered to be reinstated with a ministerial portfolio.

This was confirmed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka yesterday.

Last Friday, Mr Ravu was acquitted of allegations of abuse of office charge by the Suva Magistrate’s Court.

It was alleged that he had halted an ongoing investigation into an illegal trading of a beche-de-mer species.

“Yes, everybody is considered all the time,” Mr Rabuka said.

“He is considered, as well as Honourable Tabuya, like everybody else.

“Assistant ministers can be promoted even the backbenchers – they can be considered.

“It depends on what I feel the country needs to improve the service and delivery of government to the people.”

When approached outside Parliament yesterday, Mr Ravu welcomed Mr Rabuka’s consideration and said that he was ‘ready’ for such a decision.
