Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says he has no authority over the senior judicial officers implicated in the recently released Commission of Inquiry (COI) Report.
Despite growing calls from various sectors for the senior judicial officers mentioned in the report to step down, Mr Rabuka stressed that such matters were beyond the scope of his administration’s influence.
However, he reiterated that the Government does not have a role in such decisions.

“No, we have no role to play in that,” Mr Rabuka said, making it clear that the issue is for the judiciary to address, not the executive branch.
The COI Report, which has drawn significant attention, outlines concern about the actions of certain senior judicial officers. While specifics of the report were not discussed in the Prime Minister’s comments, public reaction has been swift, with demands for accountability intensifying across various sectors of society.
Legal experts and political commentators have pointed to the delicate balance between the independence of the judiciary and the calls for action from the public and political leaders.
While many argue that judicial officers implicated in the report should step down to preserve the integrity of the system, others stress the importance of maintaining the separation of powers between the branches of government.
