No official communication has been received by the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, on the presence of unauthorised weapons outside of official military inventory.

Speaking to this masthead yesterday, Mr Rabuka said he was not informed by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander, Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, and Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu during the National Security Council Meeting on Monday.

He said he was only aware of the weapons that were not returned to the military after the 2000 coup.

"That could be the ones still out there,” Mr Rabuka said.

Major-General Kalouniwai had indicated in his statement on April 18, following the death of Jone Vakarisi, the presence of unauthorised weapons, verified as being outside of the military’s official inventory.

Minister for Defence Pio Tikoduadua says the presence of the unauthorized weapons were a risk to communities.
