PM Praises Resilience
Out of 37 houses in Cogea Village, many were completely destroyed at the height of the cyclone. The river in the village burst its banks and as a result many of the homes were washed away.

Prime Minister Voqere Bainimarama praised the resilience of the people of Cogea Village in Bua during Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
“During TC Winston more people lost their lives compared to TC Yasa,” Mr Bainimarama said.
Out of 37 houses in Cogea Village, many were completely destroyed at the height of the cyclone. The river in the village burst its banks and as a result many of the homes were washed away.

Village headman Atekini Nairibui was in tears because his three-bedroom house was destroyed.
He said within four hours the winds and floods destroyed their livelihood.
“I was alone in the house. My wife and three children were away in Suva,” Mr Nairibui said.
