Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has called on all Fijians to recommit themselves to peace, goodwill and unity this Christmas, urging families and communities to be instruments of kindness amid growing social challenges.

In his Christmas Day message, Mr Rabuka said the birth of Jesus Christ carried a powerful message of peace that remained deeply relevant today — not merely as the absence of conflict, but as a way of life rooted in justice, forgiveness and love for one another.

“As we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, I urge all Fijians to recommit ourselves to peace — within our homes, our communities and our nation,” he said.

Mr Rabuka said Fiji’s long-standing reputation for harmony among diverse cultures, faiths and traditions must be safeguarded, adding that the country should continue to be a voice for peace and cooperation in the Pacific and beyond.

“In a time when global tensions persist, Fiji must stand firm as a nation guided by dialogue, respect and goodwill,” he said.

He said the message of peace was especially important as Fiji confronted serious issues such as the damaging effects of illicit drugs and the rise in HIV cases, particularly among young people.

He urged Fijians to respond with empathy, responsibility and collective action rather than judgement.

“Let us look out for one another. If a family member, a neighbour or a friend is in need, reach out and offer your support,” Mr Rabuka said.

“Let us restore and strengthen the loving and caring spirit for which our people have long been known.”

The Prime Minister also called for greater respect and kindness in online spaces, reminding the public that words used on social media have the power to either uplift or divide.

Looking ahead, Mr Rabuka said he remained hopeful about the year to come, expressing confidence that with unity, hard work, faith and resilience, Fiji could build a stronger economy, create opportunities for young people and ensure progress was shared by all.

He wished all Fijians at home and abroad a blessed Christmas and a peaceful, healthy and prosperous New Year.
