Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has addressed concerns raised by suspended Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa.
Mr Rabuka said the matter is being handled in accordance with established procedures.
“As far as the Constitutional Officers’ Commission (COC) is concerned, we have dealt with the complaints that came to us,” Mr Rabuka said.

“According to the standard operating procedures, we received complaints from citizens. We put those complaints to the one complained against and gave him time to respond.”
Mr Rabuka said after receiving Mr Nakarawa’s responses, a meeting was held to consider the matter thoroughly.
“We decided that the best way to go is to commit it to an investigation tribunal that will come back with recommendations.”
Mr Nakarawa expressed doubt over whether the Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga had the authority to invoke Section 137 of the Constitution to recommend his removal on grounds of misbehaviour.
He argued that while the minister could raise concerns, the COC should independently assess whether the allegations meet the threshold of “misbehaviour” as outlined in Section 137, which governs the removal of constitutional office holders.
