PM to launch 38th anniversary of RFMF pioneer servicewomen

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is set to officiate at the 38th anniversary of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ pioneer servicewomen — the first cohort of women to enlist in the RFMF in 1988.
Rabuka was the RFMF Brigadier-General at the time and led the first 43 women of the Women’s Regimental Army Corps, Intake 1/88.
To mark the milestone, the RFMF has organised a week-long programme of commemorative events.

An official Memorial Day will be held today at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua, beginning at 8am today. The programme will include the covering and laying of wreaths at the graves of seven late comrades.
A church service will follow at 2pm, after which Mr Rabuka, will host an afternoon tea with the servicewomen veterans and the families of the seven comrades who died while serving the nation.
The theme for the week-long commemoration is Down Memory Lane.
From tomorrow until Saturday, the RFMF has also organised a bonding trip to Nadi, with various activities scheduled throughout the week.
