Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is expected to officiate the opening of the Macuata Provincial Council meeting this morning in Nabouono Village, located in the Udu district.

The meeting will bring together delegations from 12 districts, with discussions set to focus on key provincial issues.

Council chairperson Ratu Jone Qomate will be absent, and vice chair Ratu Orisi Vukicanavanu will preside in his place.

Nabouono Village, the venue for the meeting, is situated in a remote part of Macuata—approximately a 30-minute boat ride from Qaranivai Landing in Dogotuki, outside Labasa Town.

The meeting is regarded as an important platform for leaders to address provincial priorities and strengthen governance.

Yesterday, women who led the preparations for the meeting expressed hope that the discussions would bring meaningful changes to their lives and communities, especially in this remote part of Fiji.

According to Losalini Leweniqila, the involvement of women marks a positive step toward ensuring their voices are included in local decision-making.

“Women have been part of the preparations since last year,” Ms Leweniqila said.

“This meeting is not just about development plans but also about improving livelihoods and empowering communities.”
