Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka paid a visit to his jailed predecessor, Voreqe Bainimarama, at the Suva Corrections Centre at Korovou last Friday.

Bainimarama is serving a one-year sentence for perverting the course of justice.

Mr Rabuka said during their conversation he informed Bainimarama that he was commissioning the RFNS PUAMAU at the Stanley Brown Naval Base in Walu Bay, Suva.

“It’s a project that the former Prime Minister had been working on during his time as Commander of the Fiji Navy and in Government. And now, it gives me immense pleasure to see his efforts come to fruition,” Mr Rabuka explained as the purpose of his visit.

“Let us continue to support and uplift each other as we work towards a brighter future for our beloved Fiji. The vessel is named after late Able Seaman Timo Puamau, a Nayau, Lau native, who died on board a naval vessel that was torpedoed in Solomon Island waters at the peak of World War II in the Pacific.”
