Poate Qara who was unable to fulfil his dream of becoming a teacher has vowed to educate his children.
The 46-year-old father-of-five was among 182 Fijians who will depart for Australia in the coming days under the Australia-Pacific Labour Scheme.
The Naitasiri native has been a banana and grog farmer for the past 20 years.

He applauded the Fijian and the Australian government and said the scheme would help him fulfill what he could not do for himself when he was a young boy.
“When I was a young boy, I wanted to become a teacher but I could not fulfill my dream because I was in a boarding school and was under a lot of peer pressure,” he said.
“I failed my exam and had to come back to the village to do farming for a living.
“I want my sons to study very hard and get a good job.
“I want to extend my house and keep some money aside for future studies of my children, these are some of the things that I hope to fund and achieve while away in Australia for nine months.”
