Police have laid charges against a taxi driver, who allegedly stabbed his passenger, after a disagreement over taxi fare.

Former police special constable Ashish Pratap, 34, has been charged with one count each of impersonation, act with intent to cause grievous harm and serious assault.

Divisional Police Commander North Senior Superintendent of Police Kemueli Baledrokadroka said it had been alleged the driver stabbed his 24-year-old passenger with a knife in Bulileka, Labasa on November 20.

He said the driver had demanded a certain fare for his service when they reached the Vaturekuka roundabout.

A disagreement over settling the taxi fare led to the driver allegedly threatening and later stabbing his passenger. She was given medical attention and sent back home.

The driver will be produced in Labasa court soon.
