Police Debunk 'Green Coconut' Rumors Spreading on Social Media

Residents who witnessed the incident claimed the boys were caught stealing coconuts and breadfruits from neighbouring homes.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu urges members of the public to be cautious in sharing information on social media.

This is after a screenshot on social media claiming that police had apprehended boys who were allegedly selling green coconut juice, which were claimed to be spiked or drugged.

The social media post claimed the boys were apprehended and invetigated by Police.

Police confirmed no such report has been lodged with them.

The screenshot widely shared on social media showed a photo of a Police officer apprehending boys at Namadi Heights near Suva.

Residents who witnessed the incident claimed the boys were caught stealing coconuts and breadfruits from neighbouring homes.

"Police will share information if there was a trend as such and we urge caution in disseminating unverified information that would create panic," ACP Driu said.
