The Hindu Unity Gathering in Suva will now go ahead tomorrow after Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu reviewed and overturned an earlier decision not to approve the event.

The organiser has been advised to proceed, with police seeking cooperation to ensure safety, security, and compliance with the Public Order Act.

“Although the application for the permit was not necessary as the gathering would not have been held in a public place, the intention of the organiser to apply for the permit is commended, as it reflected his willingness to cooperate with law enforcement with regards to being in compliant with the Public Order Act,” Mr Tudravu said.

He added that due to the large crowd expected, “there is no breach of peace or public order under the Public Order Act or any other legislations, as they will be liable for investigations.”

The Fiji Police Force has apologised for the inconvenience caused.
