Police will continue to target those suspected of involvement in illegal drug activities this festive season.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu has issued a stern warning to drug suspects, stating "we are targeting anyone suspected of drugs".

"We will be checking known drug hotspots, as well as suspected vehicles and vessels during this period," he said.

ACP Driu has emphasized that drug arrests were taking place daily; with police stepping up operations to curb the illicit trade, particularly during the busy holiday season.

He also urges the public to support police in the ongoing fight against drugs.

The latest arrest occurred last night at the Nadonumai roundabout, Lami outside Suva where a vehicle was stopped for a routine check. During the process, the driver allegedly threatened the officer, prompting further investigation.

With the assistance of the K-9Unit, police discovered a clear plastic wrapper containing five dried branches and leaves believed to be marijuana.

A subsequent search of the suspect's residence revealed a zip-lock plastic bag containing loose dried leaves, further suspected to be marijuana also. The suspect is currently in custody at the Lami Police Station, where he is being held for further investigations.

ACP Driu stressed that the operation was one of many in the force's continued efforts to curb drug-related crimes during the festive season.
