Police are on a hunt for a man who is alleged to have caused the death of his partner yesterday.

The woman died after sustaining injuries by the suspect who was yet to be found when this edition went to press last night.

The couple is believed to have stayed at a rented home at affluent Albert Lee Place, off Nailuva Road in Suva.

The incident was reported by another household member who informed her partner prompting a Police report.

Police said it was carrying out investigations and that post-term would determine the cause of death.

Last night, the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection released in a statement how saddened and outraged it was about the tragic incident.

“The ministry calls for swift justice for the victim and urges immediate action from all levels of society to help prevent further tragedies,” it said.

“We stand in solidarity with the victim’s family and all those affected by this horrific violence.

“This comes just five months since the last incident where a women died in the same manner in April this year.

“Violence against women and girls continues to plague our nation, with nearly two out of three women in Fiji experiencing physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.

“This must end.

“We call upon every individual, family, and community to take a stand and work together to prevent violence against all women and girls. Every Fijian has a role to play in ensuring that our homes, neighborhoods, and communities are places of safety and respect for all women and girls.

Line minister Lynda Tabuya said: “This loss is unacceptable and heartbreaking. To all women and girls, you are not alone.

“Help is available through the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, the National Domestic Violence Helpline (1560), and the Child Helpline (1325). We stand with you, and we will fight for justice for the victim. No woman should live in fear.”

The Fiji National Action Plan to Prevent Violence Against All Women and Girls (Fiji NAP PVAWG), launched in June 2023, is a cornerstone of Fiji’s response to this crisis.
